I attended a tutor's course under MDIS yesterday. It is a 3-day course, which will be conducted on 3 Sundays. It is a requirement for all permanent tutors to attend this course.
It was definitely an eye-opener for me. I realised that there are so many ways for me to conduct my lessons. All the while, I've been going in the class and after a few minutes of waiting for the late-comers, I'll start writing on the board to teach. And then, I get them to do an assignment. The students must've felt super bored man! Why didn't I see this sooner? Afterall, I was a student not all that long ago.
So, after listening to the other tutor's successful experiences in conducting a class and what the lecturer has taught us, I will apply them to my next class.
I've decided to start by rewarding the students who've gotten the highest in their Mock Exams and then, I'll play some games with them. Of course, I'll be rewarding the winners as well. And if I find that a student has improved, I'll reward him/her too. I've already bought 2 big lollipops and I'll be buying more candy today.
I think I won't be doing much teaching this Saturday, except for running through their mistakes in the Mock Exam because it is necessary that I win them over first. It is very clear to me, that I haven't won them over yet.
And I've already made some plans to bring my laptop to show them some videos and also to conduct my lessons.
I just hope that the weary mood will be lifted after this Saturday.
