ITP...so far...
I'm currently into my second week of my attachment. Compared to some of my fellow attachees, I'm quite lucky to be able to actually do some work.In the lab, we test the sludge(not necessarily sludge, we also test the treated water) for BOD, COD, ammonia, alkalinity, pH, chloride, TS, SS, and I think there're a few more, but I can't remember them. But basically we're testing for all the parameters. If this is not enough, the frequency of doing the tests aren't the same everyday. Some has to be done twice a day, others 3 times a week, the rest once a week. So you have to remember which tests should be done and when. Still, it is exciting, even though the lab is a little rundown(well...it IS old). But the people are friendly, so I actually don't mind working there. But we'll see how my circumstances are in the future. So far, I've done COD, alkalinity, pH, chloride and ammonia. Doing the experiments are easy once you get the hang of it, but the one I still have trouble in is writing in the correct data. Sometimes I'd calculate wrongly or write the data under a different name. It's all because they have so many different terms that it gets very confusing. The working atmosphere is quite relaxed. There isn't any rushing to complete an experiment or anything. So, I'll have to say that you won't get stressed.(is it safe to say that? hehe)But like I said, I'll see how my situation is in the future. Working at the wastewater treatment plant is very attractive, once you overcome the stink. More so because they'll be shifting to Changi in 2009, so I expect everything to be new, including a brand new lab with all the latest gadgets. And also, the lab officer has told me that most of the lab officers at the other plants are close to retiring already, so they'll need some new blood. We'll discuss further about my possible occupation after I've graduated and can't get into a local university ok?
